Out-of-Area Plan Overview

What's Changing for 2012:

  • The medical out-of-pocket maximum is $3,150 for individuals and $6,300 for families.
  • For brand-name prescription drugs, the coinsurance minimum is $32 and the coinsurance maximum is $130. 
  • The prescription drug out-of-pocket maximum is $2,350.

Overview

The Out-of-Area Plan, administered by United Healthcare (UHC), is an indemnity plan that is available to you only if you are located outside of the UHC and Blue Cross Blue Shield service (BCBS) areas.

  • The Out of Area SPD from UHC provides detailed information about this plan.
  • Residents of Hawaii are offered just one medical plan, Health Plan 200, which is approved by the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. Information on Health Plan 200 can be found in the Hawaii Medical Plan Summary.

Cost

You and Travelers share the cost of your medical coverage. When you enroll in the Out-of-Area plan, the company will inform you of your share of the premium. Your premium is based on the plan that you choose, the coverage level you select, your annual base salary, and the smoking status of you and your spouse or domestic partner as applicable. Deductions will be taken from the first two paychecks each month.

  • Condition Management: UHC offers a program that includes education and phone-based support for UHC plan participants with chronic medical conditions. For additional information about the Condition Management program, call 866.676.0740.
  • Tobacco Cessation: Enrolled employees and their dependents over age 18 are eligible for a tobacco cessation benefit to help them stop using tobacco. The Tobacco Cessation program provides access to a personal coach and nicotine replacement therapies.
  • Healthy Pregnancy Program: UHC provides prenatal care support programs for pregnant members. This program helps members have the healthiest birth — and healthiest baby — possible.
