The Children's Center - Programs

Educational philosophy

Teachers and staff at The Children's Center at Travelers seek to provide a physically safe and emotionally secure setting where children can explore and experiment with a variety of materials and experiences in a supportive, confidence-building atmosphere. This environment is designed to promote physical, emotional, intellectual, creative and social growth.

Preschool curriculum

Children's Home Society and Family Services uses the High/Scope Educational Approach, a child initiated program, as the basis of its preschool curriculum.

The premise of High/Scope is that children are active learners who learn best from activities they plan and carry out themselves. Children's Home Society and Family Services believes in a child-focused program that promotes positive self-esteem and emphasizes the social, emotional, cognitive and physical activities that are the foundation of a child's growth and development.

Enrichment classes

In addition to the regular curriculum, preschool children at the center can enroll in programs designed to encourage their further development in several areas of interest. The center offers classes in:

Growing with Music:
Growing with Music is an extra program the center offers to toddler and preschool aged children. Each weekly class includes singing, movement and instrumental activities designed to help children learn, grow and express themselves through music. The center has offered the music program since 1992.
