The Children's Center - FAQs
Following are some common questions employees have about The Children’s Center at Travelers. If you need additional information, you may contact Robin Cauley by email or phone at 651.310.7779.
Q: Does Travelers operate the Children’s Center as well as own the building?
A: While Travelers provides the resources to support the child care facility, the Children’s Center is staffed and operated by Children’s Home Society and Family Services (CHSFS), the largest nonprofit provider of child care services in the state.
Q: How can I find out about child care openings at the center while I’m on maternity leave?
A: Employees who are waiting for child care openings while on maternity leave may call the Children’s Center and leave their phone numbers so they may be notified while at home.
Q: I’d like to use the drop-in care. How much advance notice does the center need and how do I apply?
A: Employees who are interested in drop-in care should preregister their child prior to the day child care is needed. After registration, employees should call the Center as soon as they know when they’ll need drop-in care. Openings are not guaranteed and are based on space availability.
Q: Can I tour the Children’s Center? How do I get there?
A: The Children’s Center welcomes employees to visit or tour the center’s facilities. The center is attached to Travelers' north building. Entrances are located at the southwest corner of the parking ramp or at 80 West Seventh Street. For specific directions, see Directions and Tours.
Q: How large is The Children’s Center and how many children are enrolled?
A: The Children’s Center accommodates 118 children in its eight classrooms. The entire center, including the classrooms, indoor activity spaces and outdoor play areas, is designed to ensure the best possible care for the children.
Q: What sort of educational approach does the center use?
A: CHSFS uses the High/Scope Educational Approach, a child initiated program, as the basis of its preschool curriculum. The program focuses on activities that involve social relations development, language, representation, classification, seriation, numbers, spatial relations, time, physical movement and music. For more details, see Programs.
Q: Does the center accept children with special health care needs?
A: The center’s director, health consultant and CHSFS jointly decide whether they can meet the needs of a child with special health care concerns. This decision is made individually. For more details, see Special Health Care Needs.
