Time Off and Leaves of Absence
Leave of Absence Due to the Birth of a Child

Overview

Travelers provides time off to employees who need to care for their newborn child.

Mothers are provided with approximately six or eight weeks of disability leave, which include the five days of PTO that are required for the elimination period, depending on the type of delivery. They are also able to extend their leave with the use of accrued and/or purchased PTO days and unpaid time off.

Fathers may use accrued or purchased PTO days and, may be eligible for additional unpaid time off. Employees who are eligible for the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) are entitled to 12 weeks of job protection while they care for their newborn child.

Please see the section on FMLA to determine if you are eligible. The available 12 weeks of FMLA is reduced by any other FMLA time taken in the past 12 months, including the disability period after the birth of a child.

Note: Approved disability periods may be extended based on individual circumstances. If your disability period is extended, the LOA unit will be notified by Synchrony and any dates for your additional leave will be adjusted. Additional benefits may be available under state disability plans and state family leave plans. Contact the Employee Services Unit (ESU) at 4-ESU@travelers.com or 800.441.4378 for more information regarding your state.
