Dependent Eligibility Audit Program

Travelers strives to provide you and your family with valuable benefits. Ensuring the integrity of the dependent eligibility data on file is an important component of Travelers programs as having ineligible dependents enrolled in any benefit program increases the costs - both to you and the company.

Travelers conducts random audits of covered dependents. If an individual is selected to be audited, they will receive a letter requesting that they provide appropriate documentation to verify proof of dependent eligibility (e.g. birth certificates, university transcripts, etc.)

To review your enrolled family member information, go to HR Self Service from myHR and click Dependent/Beneficiary Coverage under Employee Quick Links.

Eligible family members include:
  • Legal spouse*
  • Domestic partner
  • Your unmarried natural, adopted, foster, grand- or stepchildren who are under age 19, or under age 25 if registered as a full-time student at an accredited or licensed educational institution.

* Note: Legally separated spouses are not eligible dependents.

Please refer to these Frequently Asked Questions (PDF) for further information on the Dependent Eligibility Audit Program. For more information on benefit eligibility, refer to the Benefit Plan Summaries.

Covering ineligible dependents may jeopardize your benefit eligibility. If you have ineligible family members enrolled in your benefit elections (e.g. married child, ex-spouse, etc.) who are inadvertently covered under the plan, you should remove them immediately. To remove a dependent, contact the Employee Services Unit (ESU) at 800.441.4378.
